The Storyteller's Bill of Rights

The Right to refuse registration and the right to IP/Server ban.

Our first priority is to maintain a certain level of integrity on this forum, and to ensure the smooth running of this forum. If you are a known offender of trolling, flaming, copyright, shit-kicking, stalking and drama you will not be permitted the use of this forum, its facilities or use. No correspondence shall be entered into.

The Right of Have Fun.

That's what roleplay is about in the end.

The Right to base decisions on the good of the roleplay/plotline.

The Storytellers must make their decisions based on what is best for everyone involved. They will make their decisions based on what will produce the most interesting story for everyone involved and for the good of roleplay. Note that this Right means the Storytellers will sometimes ignore elements which may be derived from other gaming sources according of the method of roleplay that the majority use i.e.: D&D, VTM, Warhammer sources may not be used if it conflicts which others involved; depends upon the outcome of game discussion. The Right to Game-Lock/Thread-Lock IF another player cannot post due to IRL issues or other factors which may create the scene to become idle especially in scenes of fighting/conflict/battle, if this occurs all those involved MUST be contacted before any action placed which may cause upset or duress to the player who hasn't posted. We will not condone 'force-kills' or 'auto-kills' in these sections, but we will condone a player leaving or being simply injured in the process to allow characters to move on.

The Right to remove any OOC chat in the middle of an IC scene.

The Storytellers have the right to delete or move any OOC chat posted in the IC sections which can cause disruption when people really only want to place their attention on roleplaying and not partaking in conversation mid game.

The Right to accept or reject characters.

In order to guide the game, the Storytellers must be a part of the character creation or see a character sheet posted in the 'Character Sheet' area before allowing anyone to post IC in the moderated areas this forum. However, in the 'free game' and 'un-moderated' areas that are not under ST or Moderator influence DO NOT have to post a character sheet. It is advisable to post a Character Sheet if you plan to RP that character on a Long-term basis. This is only to ensure that abilities, traits and skills are recorded and cannot be debated later.

We are willing to work with you in creating a character sheet should you request help.

The Right to prompt and frequent correspondence.

The players should always stay in touch, if you are not contacting each other regularly then you, effectively, aren't playing the game. Long absences without notice aren't acceptable in a tabletop game and they aren't acceptable here. If you feel you are going to be away or have personal issues then a simple act of courtesy would be greatly appreciated, not just from the Storytellers but also the players who are waiting for a post or simply worrying about whether you are alright or not. We do not expect every detail but a small note saying you will be gone would suffice. Then if at least you are unable to post, but do not wish to hold up the roleplay, you can grant us permission to write your character out of that scene without harm coming to your character, we would gladly all do that for you.

The Right to respect.

The Storyteller should be able to expect respect from the Players. Being disrespectful in correspondence just gets people mad and only creates problems.

The Right to ask Characters and/or Players to leave the game.

Sometimes things simply don't work and, to uphold the Rights of the other Players, one Player has to leave. Sometimes it's simply the Character that doesn't work out. We have the right to be judge, jury and executioner, even if we do not really want to be but it is a fact of the game. Only in extreme circumstances will we actually ask a character to leave or a person to leave. But, at times some people simply post to be annoying or create a rift in the currently smooth-running roleplay, like throwing a spanner into the works. We welcome conflict, that is what makes roleplay interesting and causes others who may not interact usually to otherwise do so.

The Right to question.

It is a Storytellers Right to ask questions about the current roleplay situations or even ask questions about the characters involved in the game or question something which looks suspicious. Of course, any OOC information cannot be used IC unless through the proper channels, but some must remember that characters may have oracular or divination ability to somewhat see through the smoke screen of appearance and lies, but at an appropriate level not to fully know everything at the precise minute it happens, this would make roleplay dull and tedious- we all like a hint of mystery.

The Right to refuse war or to fight

It is the Storytellers Right to refuse a war stated post on the entire realm or the moderated sections IF they have not been contacted prior or even asked if they would be interested in participating in a storyline which includes war and the possible loss of other people's characters. If you wish to attack the any IC areas in this forum then contact those involved in the area, who run their own sections and state your intentions, it is only common courtesy that we all communicate and discuss the issue, and that everyone is asked if they wish to participate. RP is a consent-based activity. No character may be autoed unless consent is given by the owner of the character.

The Players Bill of Rights

The Right to experience a drama-free environment.

Should you have a problem [personal] against any member, you are advised to keep it off the forum, meaning, you are not to use ANY feature here to abuse, threaten, stalk another member. You are not to extract contact information of members and use this to pursue negative correspondence against ANY member of this forum. This offense we take seriously and will result in a permanent ban. Each member has a right to privacy, nor should they have to be concerned what their information is being used for. Every person has the right to participate on this forum so long as the above is not being committed. If you do not like a person, then stay clear of their path and presence. You also have the [ignore] option. Be mature.

The Right to have fun.

That's what the roleplay is about in the end. If you aren't having fun, then the Storytellers are doing something wrong.

The Right to be treated fairly and equally.

The Storytellers have a responsibility to make sure they don't play favourites or bring grudges into the game. Just because we happen to be friends with someone outside the game, we should never let that intrude into our adjudication of the game. The rules apply to everyone, equally.

The Right to be told the truth.

The Storytellers should never lie to you out of character. They should have the right not to answer questions where it would spoil parts of the game or hurt others. But you have to be able to trust us to give it to you straight.

The Right to criticize.

No matter what a player says about the game, the player forfeits none of their rights, everyone is allowed to voice their opinions and add input into the running to the game to make it better for all involved, in fact we encourage ideas and creativity from members at all times- after all it is your game as well. I almost included a Storytellers Right, that they have the right to be criticized- we want to know what we are doing wrong. We can't promise we will fix it immediately or at all in a specific instance, but there is no question it will help build a better game in the long run.

The Right to prompt and frequent correspondence.

The Storytellers will stay in touch. If you send us a message, we will get back to you as soon as possible. In a tabletop game the Storytellers needs to be available for the Players to talk to frequently, and it is no different in an online RP game. If for some reason you cannot post for quite a length of time, tell us, we are not only hear to guide the game, protect our characters, but also here to guide and protect yours if need be. Remember communication is really important at all times.

The Right to be respected and respect.

The player should be able to expect respect from not only the Storytellers, but the other players as well. Being disrespectful in correspondence just gets people man and only creates problems not only for each other but inevitably the game as well, people get annoyed they leave and sometimes it is next to impossible to coerce them back. If you cannot be at least civil, then it is best for all to take the matter into private to be handled or ask the Storyteller to help you- that is what we are here for.

The Right to leave the game.

A player can always leave the game with no hard feelings at all. We'd prefer if you exercised your Right to criticize first and tell us what the problem is- but whatever you decide to do is fine. We would also prefer it if you helped us by wrapping up loose plot threads over the course of a couple of weeks, so it doesn't leave others hanging. But again, if you've got to go, you've got to go. Just always know that you will be welcomed back into the game with the same character as before of a new character.

The Right of character consideration.

A player has the Right to not participate in the plot that they may feel is morally wrong or intrusive. A player has the Right not to fight or take part in a plot if it is in the characters creation to not fight. It is also a players Right to not have their character 'force-killed' or 'auto-killed' and instead if failing to post for whatever reason due to IRL issues or other personal issues, then it is their Right to have that character safely removed from that scene by the Storyteller (whether they run away or are just injured) No action may be forced upon a player, and should a conflicting situation occur, then please contact the player and discuss the storyline or possible outcome, this makes for better roleplay and shows that you are actually concerned about creating an interesting read and not simply killing off people's characters.

The Right Of The No-Auto Clause.

No character may be autoed by another character who is not the creator/author of that character. No auto action will be tolerated on this site unless the person has consent from the characters author to move or act that character or assume that character's cause of action. Any post found with this action will be either deleted or changed to the satisfactory standard of the DM or SR Staff. In conjunction from this, any auto is seen as an illegal action and will not be tolerated. Before assuming or taking the rights away of another player carefully consider how you would react should the shoe be on the other foot. Anyone seen making an auto without consent will be issued with a warning.

The Right of Character Information.

Should a problem occur in regard to the actions or ability your character possesses it is best to provide a character sheet listing all the abilities and skills your character possesses or that he/she uses on a regular basis. It is a request that ALL people who roleplay provide a character sheet for easy reference, that way should anything arise, it can be referred to. It is your responsibility to provide the fact and intricacies of your character, that way we can help you should your character not be suited in the running storylines, if you have any problems with character creation it is also part of a Storytellers job to help you. Again, that is what we are here for.

The Right to Moderate OWN IC areas.

You have the right to ask to moderate a section in this forum or have an area created for you that may suit your purpose, and that you can also run your own game and invite players to participate. You also have the Right to question post removal/deletion/or move should the information and reason not already be given. if you do not feel you have been treated fairly, then please by all means speak up, don't walk away angry it is always best to discuss this than leaving it, leaving things always creates further problems. Everyone wants roleplay to run as smoothly as possible, even in times of conflict it is best to speak up than brood on it and then regret not having said anything. We do ask that before any area is created that you provide the contact details for at least 4 other people willing to roleplay with you in this area.
