Reinne:
She snarled as he dodged her first blow. The moment his whip came freely through the air toward her feet she nimbly hopped over it while bring her swordaround in an circle motion from up to down to deflect his blow. Backing away a step she heard the tell tale horns of Velusia and smiled. Lifting her head she continued to grin at him as she spoke.
" Tis you who has no idea whom you face Darkthorne. You gave yourself away to me. And, until now, I have given you nothing more than my allegience to Blackthorne. You hear those horns? That is the sound of my brother and the army of Velusia coming to slaughter you like the demented cattle you are."
She brought her sword and swung it down in an inner arch once more, only to be met with his own blade as they locked up. Here she grinned again.
" I am Reinne Blackthorne. Daughter of Reese. Sister to Shamus...and Queen of Velusia."
The moment the words spilled from her lips she saw the shock on his face. Capitalizing on his surprise, she shoved him back and twirled her sword again, coming in low as to take his knees only to twist her wrist and bring that weapon around high about his shoulder and arm that wielded his own weapon of death. Why had she not been effected by the illusions? The answer was simple. To defeat your enemy you must know them. She had studied them for years. Einar had also given her first hand information on their tricks. Knowledge is power..power which suddenly illuminated throughour her form as the gift her father had given Shamus belatedly showed up in her.
" I do believe he has brought the whole family with him..."
Matius:
Matius could feel the army of Prasutagus closing, just as he heard the woman speak her name. In that moment his guard dropped for a split second and the blade sliced into his shoulder, hitting bone. He pulled himself free as the flames burned about that side of his shoulders. He stumbled back some with a blank look upon his face, as his form returned to normal.
" Look what you've done...you've ruined my best clothing...."
Matius turned with that same blank look upon his face as blood poured freely from the wound. He staggered along the battlement just in time to see the forces of Darkthorne emerging from the thicket. He was just a little late, if only he'd been more clever about his attack.
He winced and turned around to face Reinne once more, he would not give up so easily. The wound was deep and the fire prevented it from healing like it should. Matius laughed and backed up some more, " I've only lost my breath, once I regain it I shall teach you a lesson girl. So you may be the sister of Shamus and Queen of Velusia, but I am heir to my father's title as well." He bit his lip as the pain ebbed more in his shoulder, he wouldn't be undone by a woman.
He whispered a call, " Father if you can hear me, avenge me for my folly, I have let my judgement become clouded and as such, let myself think I was unstopable." He kept his eyes on Reinne and brought the sword up to his eye level. His eyes glanced at her over the sword's blade, just before he charged her with a zig-zag sword slash, going from a thrust, to a overhead slash, to a side slash coming towards her left. He gave out a battle yell as he did so, partly from rage at his own actions and partly because of his determination not to be defeated.
Reinne:
She merely sneered at his remark about his clothing. The man was arrogant, and worse yet, he was an arrogant fool. She said nothing as he continued to ramble on aimlessly about things she cared not to hear. Instead, she merely shifted her stance pulling her sword upwards and in toward her chest double fist. Turning to face her left side to him she grinned waiting with breathless anticipation of his next move.
The moment he started towards her she pivoted on her right foot pulling back to face him fully as he charged her, sword flashing in wild abandon. It was like watching a kaledioscope change in rapid concession, and still she managed to gage his move down the last instant. The moment her eyes saw the sword coming down for the left slash towards her side she ducked, tucked and rolled...right underneath it.
Coming up on the other side as the sword met she she twirled her own in true (Xena) fashion and plunged the sword with all her might backwards...aiming straight for his mid spine from her partial kneeling position. If she struck true..this fight was over.
Matius:
In the space between a breath and a heartbeat, it was over, his battle was lost. He staggered from the wound delivered to him by Reinne, for a woman, she was an equal in battle. Maybe he had misjudged her, misjudged everything, for he was now slain. Walking a few steps before he fell to his knees, his eyes looked up at the clouds. Time seemed to stand still in this moment, death's clock slowly winding down. The flames that were slowly spreading over his form, could do nothing. For the bright light of the sun was a warmth that Matius had long forgotten. A life of eternal cold....ha...how wonderful it felt to be in the light of the sun. The warm rays gently caressing every stranger with no care for who you were. No care for what evil deeds you may have done.
" I never knew the sun could be so beautiful...it's magnificent....uhhhhh"
His body thudded against the stones as the flames began to consume his form. A black gloved hand, still reached out for his sword which had clanged to the stone with his body. The hand flexed and reached, before finally falling lifelessly to the stone battlement. Matius's death brought on a furious rage from his soldiers. They gave even more then before to the battle at hand, their lord's fall given them hatred to drive them on. His death had not been in vain, for the forces that served him now fought with a vengance.
